Popis: | Neural factors were shown to inhibit corpora allata in vitro using a radiochemical assay for rates of juvenile hormone synthesis. Corpora allata with intact nerves to the brain were less active than isolated corpora allata. Corpora allata treated with extracts of brain, corpora cardiaca or corpora allata were less active than those incubated with extracts of optic lobes. Corpora allata in high K + medium were less active than those in high K + and Mg 2+ ; such effects were reversible and accompanied by changes in cyclic AMP. These results are consistent with the hypothesis that corpora allata are inhibited by material that originates in the brain and is released at nerve endings within the corpora allata. |
