Popis: | In keeping with the tradition established by former schools in 1988 and 1991, the 3rd Oxford Summer School provided an intense course in neutron scattering for some 32 students from September 10–24, 1993. Four introductory lectures on fundamental concepts were given by Andrew Boothroyd (Oxford University) and such subjects as neutron sources (Colin Carlile, RAL), instruments (Terry Willis, Oxford) and neutron detectors (Bruce Forsyth, RAL) were covered. In scattering methods, elastic (Chick Wilson, RAL for single crystals and Albert0 Albinati, Milan for powders), inelastic (Gerry Lander, Karlsruhe and Mark Hagen, RAL and Keele), reflection (Bob Thomas, Oxford) and small-angle scattering (Heinrich Stuhrmann, Geesthacht) were all covered in some depth. More specialized subjects such as studies of biomolecular dynamics (Dieter Middendorf, Oxford), quasielastic scattering and tunneling spectroscopy (Bob Thomas, Oxford) and liquid and amorphous materials (Alan Soper, RAL) were covered as well.
