Popis: Objective To determine the incidence of intrauterine pathology at hysteroscopy in women aged 30 years or less. Design Retrospective review. Setting Minimal access surgery unit at a tertiary referral centre. Subjects Women aged 30 years or less with persistent menstrual disturbance presenting for outpatient hysteroscopy. Intervention All patients had diagnostic pelvic ultrasound and diagnostic hysteroscopy. Main outcome measure Incidence of intrauterine pathology amenable to surgery. Results 41 instances of women presenting with abnormal bleeding were analysed. Hysteroscopy demonstrated intrauterine pathology in 16 patients (39%). Surgical treatment was suitable in 10 (24.4%). In over 20% of cases, hysteroscopy findings failed to agree with ultrasound appearances. Conclusions Hysteroscopy should be considered in women under 30 presenting with persistent menstrual disturbance irrespective of the ultrasound findings.
