Popis: Summary.-Two experiments were conducted to determine the effects of Methandrostenolone, an androgenic drug marketed under the trade name Dianabol, on old male rats. Results indicate its value in increasing activity level, weight gain, and responsivity to female rats as measured by bar-pressing behavior and the Peacock-Williams device for measuring bodily movement. Use of Dianabol (Methandrostenolone) with animal and human Ss has been reported as producing potent anabolic effects indicated by increase in body weight, increase in levator ani and kidney weights, and by offsetting cortisone induced growth inhibition in castrate and normal adult rats. Its androgenic effects were reported as very weak with no clinically detrimental estrogenic, progestational, or corticoid-like activiry noted (CIBA, 1961). Clinical investigators report that in humans, Dianabol produced an increased feeling of well being, vitality, and the overcoming of lassitude. This was accompanied by rapid recovery from surgical procedures and weight gain (CIBA, 1961; Liddle & Burke, 1960). The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of Dianabol on old male rats. They were studied in regard to their activity level, reactivity to both male and female rats, and body weight.
