Popis: | The need for lightweight and high specific strength materials gave rise to the development of magnesium-based composites. Due to the superior properties and low cost, magnesium metal matrix composites (MMCs) have found a wide range of applications in many industrial sectors. The present study gives a brief overview of the effects of reinforcing different materials such as Alumina, Titanium carbide, graphite, CNTs in the magnesium-based alloys fabricated through conventional and modified stir casting. The impact of different geometries and percentage contribution of reinforcement on the microstructure, mechanical and tribological features is also reviewed. Based on the literature review, it was found that the properties of magnesium MMCs are dependent on the kind, geometry and percentage contribution of reinforcement in the composite. This work further reveals that the optimum selection of stir casting process parameters improves the wettability and quality of fabricated composite. |
