Changes in haematocrit values in anaerobically and aerobically treated blood samples of rainbow trout ( Salmo gairdneri ) have been studied in vitro . The haematocrit value of blood kept under anaerobic conditions, e.g. in haematocrit capillaries, increased very rapidly, by about 25%, during the first hour. When the sample was oxygenated its haematocrit value decreased again to its original level. The increase may result from cellular swelling, caused by an increase in the CO 2 tension of the blood due to cellular respiration. |
