Sensing the aroma of Jasmine and evaluating its quality is an important commercial activity. Since, standard chemical methods are difficult to deploy in field a simple field deployable aroma sensor is necessary. There is one attempt at developing an E-nose using array of metal oxide semiconductor sensors. These sensors are non specific and are cross sensitive and hence could be replaced with one single sensor which is sensitive to many of the aromatic compounds present in Jasmine. This will reduce data processing and simplify the sensing system. In an effort to develop single sensor capable of evaluating Jasmine aroma many types of materials were considered that are simple to build, stable, reusable and low cost. Conducting polymers top the list, as they are easy to produce or easily available and measuring change of resistance is simple. Of the commercially available conducting polymers, PEDOT: PSS is stated to be the most stable and sensitive aroma sensor. Thus PEDOT: PSS is the first choice as the Jasmine aroma sensing material. This paper presents fabrication procedure and experimental procedure for measuring aroma of Jasmine flower. This sensor is useful in evaluating quality of jasmine flower. |
