The applicability of system models to urban social problems in Western Europe is reviewed. The consequences are studied of the specific institutional behaviour and spatial environment in the region in relation to the system-dynamic approach. A system-dynamics model of a Dutch city was run on a computer to test the ideas put forward. A limited applicability of this type of models is concluded. |
