Popis: We report on the investigation of the nonlinear refractive index in femtosecond laser written waveguide arrays in fused silica. The nonlinear refractive index is significantly reduced compared to the unmodified material. Due to the dependence of the processing parameters the effective nonlinearity in such waveguide structures can be tuned. This offers additional flexibility in the design of nonlinear devices.
