A National Study Comparing the Expenditures of Teacher Education Programs by Carnegie Classification and with other Disciplines

Popis: For the past fifteen years considerable attention has been given to the reform of public education, including the preparation of teachers. There have been many recommendations for reforming teacher education, all requiring increased commitment on the part of colleges and universities. To date, however, there has been little evidence that such commitment exists. In fact, many teacher educators believe that teachers are prepared “on the cheap” and that education programs serve as “cash cows” for their university or college. In this article, the results of a national study, in which expenditures for education programs were compared across four major Carnegie Classifications and with other disciplines are presented.
