Popis: This procedure describes a method for determining the distribution of fiber diameters of man-made vitreous fibers (MMVF) in bulk products by optical microscopy. Although some very thin fibers may be present in a typical bulk MMVF sample, repeated studies have shown that optical techniques provide a satisfactory method for the determination of the fiber diameter distribution for any product with an anticipated mean fiber diamter of 1 μm or larger. This procedure is applicable for the determination of the diamter distribution of bulk samples only and is not intended for use with aerosol samples where the number of particles is an important consideration.
