Popis: | Based on previous research and recommendations, a test of handwriting speed was developed and administered to 135 male and 115 female undergraduate students drawn from the Colleges of Arts and Science, Education and Engineering at the University of Missouri, Columbia. Analysis showed a significant ? .05) difference in favor of females. Norms are included as well as recommendations for using this measure with physically handicapped and able-bodied college students. THE STUDY of speed of handwriting has not typically extended to college students. Apparently, there has been no felt need for studying individu als on this level as evidenced by the research reviewed (5, 6, 7). Since most college courses require timed written quizzes, mid-term, and final exams, the speed of written communication for students can be a real concern. In addition, stu dents handicapped by some type of upper extrem ity functional loss may not compare favorably with their able-bodied peers in various handwrit ing exercises taken for granted in the able-bodied community. |
