Popis: Metabolic diseases, like obesity, are not just a problem of excess calorie intake and the inappropriate processing of energy from nutrients after consumption also plays an underappreciated role in metabolic disease. This thesis identifies carnitine acetyltransferase (Crat) in brain cells that regulate food intake as a key enzyme that also shifts the body from fat burning to fat storage when food becomes available for consumption. By controlling this metabolic transition, Crat is a promising target candidate for obesity and type 2 diabetes therapies.
