Popis: | This was a prospective, randomised, investigator-masked, parallel-group, single centre study that was performed to compare fluorometholone-gentamicin eye drops with fluorometholone-neomycin eye drops in the control of ocular inflammation after cataract surgery. Ocular examinations were carried out preoperatively and postoperatively on days 1 (baseline), 3 and 6. 60 patients (30 in each treatment group) of both genders undergoing cataract-lens implant surgery for visually disabling cataract were enrolled in the study. The baseline parameters were similar in the two study groups. At day 6 after treatment (final postoperative visit), cells in the anterior chamber (p = 0.004) and conjunctival hyperaemia (p = 0.02) were statistically significantly less with fluorometholone-gentamicin compared with fluorometholone-neomycin. Both treatments were equally well tolerated. In conclusion, this study demonstrated that fluorometholone-gentamicin eye drops were more effective than fluorometholone-neomycin eye drops in the control of ocular inflammation after cataract surgery. |
