Popis: The diverse functionality of distinct classes of RNA molecules renders them the fulcrum of biological information flow. It is increasingly appreciated that transcription is pervasive and over 85% of the genome is transcribed. Research in the recent years have established that the coding and non-coding RNAs constitute a multilayered network, which dictates the spatio-temporal regulation of RNAs and proteins by altering their abundance and localization. Moreover several transcriptome wide studies have showed that RNAs exists in different conformations which adds to their functional versatility. In this chapter, we discuss about (i) RNA biogenesis including formation of mature RNAs by splicing, post-transcriptional modifications such as RNA editing and their functional influence on the cell, (ii) how different classes of antisense RNAs regulate each other and (iii) how specific RNA structures in the transcriptome influences the life cycle and functionality of RNAs.
