In a recent paper Guicking [J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 87, 2251–2254 (1990)], gives a historical report on the invention of active noise control by Paul Lueg. Guicking states, inter alia, that Lueg was the first to describe and patent the principle of the compensation of a noise signal by another in antiphase. Lueg’s patent application was, however, predated, if only by a few weeks, by Henry Coanda’s application for a patent on, essentially, the same invention. This letter gives some details and comments on the latter application. |
