Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) are widely accepted as beneficial microbiota that promote human health and well-being. They are important part of the human microbiome with a significant role in gut homeostasis. Several Lactobacillus strains are proven probiotics (from Greek Pro-for and bio-health). They possess a broad spectrum of activity and are able to restore dysbiosis, resulting from environmental stress, antibiotics, etc. With understanding of their important role, several physical factors are studied. Limited data, however, exists on the effects of ionization irradiation on probiotic LAB. |
