Popis: | Despite an abundance of research and literature documenting the experience of disability in the family, the viewpoint of the individual with the disability has largely been excluded from previous research. The purpose of this study was to explore the perceptions of individuals with disabilities regarding the impact of disability on their families in the psychological, social, and spiritual domains. A total of 410 persons with disabilities (PWDs) responded to the Insider Perception of Family and Disability (IPFD) questionnaire developed for this study. Overall results reveal that PWDs often disagree with the extant literature. Recommendations derived from this study include actively seeking the perceptions of PWDs when considering family dynamics and experience of disability in research and practice. |
