Interaction between the gene daughterless and X-chromosome heterochromatin in Drosophila melanogaster

Popis:	Interaction between the chromosome 2 gene ‘daughterless’ (da) and X-chromosome heterochromatin was investigated in Drosophila melanogaster. An interaction was found between da and ‘bobbed’ (bb), a locus within the heterochromatin which codes for rRNA. Similarly, there was an interaction between da and Base, an inverted X chromosome which exhibits position-effect suppression of some rRNA cistrons. These data support the hypothesis of a regulatory role for da over a portion of the X heterochromatin. The total RNA content of eggs produced by t/da and da/da females was also measured. No significant quantitative difference was found.
