Popis: Abscission is evoked in response to both environmental and developmental cues, e.g., fruit ripening, senescence, disease, insect damage, fertilization, drought, heat, etc. Both the quality and yield of a crop can be affected by the number of flowers and young fruit that abscise prematurely. An understanding of the biology of abscission is of both commercial and academic interest. The intent of this article is to review progress in my laboratory towards an understanding of the hormonal and cell-specific regulation of abscission.
