The edition of the Tragicomedia de Calisto y Melibea of Zaragoza, at the office of Jorge Coci at the expense of Pedro Bernuz and Bartolomé de Nájera, 17th of june 1545, is the first Spanish illustrated edition of the Tragicomedia that returns to the iconographic plan of the Burgos Comedia, characterised by page-wide scenes directly linked to the text. In this article, I will evidence that the Zaragoza edition did not resort exclusively to the Burgos Comedia for inspiration, but it used the page-wide woodcuts of the illustrated editions printed in Spanish according to the cromberguerian model, as well as those of the German translation printed by Heinrich Steiner in Augsburg in 1534. |
