Popis: The handbook supplied by most manufacturers provides enough detailed information for the operator to obtain an absorption spectrum without further aid. This chapter gives a more general background, partly personally reminiscent, not restricted to one specific instrument, but mutatis mutandis broadly applicable to most: any brief instrument descriptions are intended to illustrate an application of a principle. Some of the older but still usable instruments, which have been donated to a school or technical college, are probably unaccompanied by any handbook at all. Students may find some evocative hints useful, perhaps thought-stimulating to the point of action.
