Popis: Suprachoroidal hemorrhage (SCH) in ophthalmic surgery is infamous for its difficult management and variable visual outcome. Consequently, identification of patients at risk is mandatory to adopt the necessary prophylactic measures. In the current chapter, we will discuss risk factors, prophylactic measures, clinical presentation, and current management of SCH including indications for intervention, various surgical techniques, and prognosis. While prospective randomized trials are not possible due to the rarity of the pathology, the current recommendation is to intervene surgically in selected cases after adequate liquefaction of the blood clot guided by ultrasound examination. Drainage sclerotomies and pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) represent the classic approach. Recently, several alternatives to the classic technique emerged for external drainage of SCH that could be performed with or without PPV or intraocular infusion. Currently, there is no consensus on one standard technique and the surgical approach depends largely on the surgeon’s preference.
