Popis: Although both the Universal Declaration of the Human Rights and the European Convention on Human Rights guarantee the liberty of faith and family life, the French bans on Muslim women's vestment were legitimized. As the book aims to analyze the British and the Spanish reactions to the 2004 French ban law in the national press discourse, this chapter covers the French political justification of the 2004 ban and analyzes the British and Spanish Muslim populations and representation in these two contexts. This chapter also studies the fear-stimulus of Muslim visibility in Europe, covering the colonial conflicts, the need to the enemy, and cultural superiority. This chapter also follows Lassen Thomassen’s approach to identity construction agreeing that identities are contingent, consequently, there are no fixed standards for the European national identity.
