The central role of mathematics in the elementary school is well established. Increasing awareness of how children learn mathematics, however, has brought about changes in techniques of presentation and in content emphasis. Such is the natural evolution of a subject. The specific age level at which any activity is introduced or extended is determined, of course, by the teacher in the context of a particular teaching situation. |
