Popis: | ESR spectra showed that manganese(II) complexes with tripodal‐ligands containing a benzimidazole group can activate oxygen easily in the presence of an aliphatic aldehyde leading to the conversion of the Mn(II) species to a Mn(IV) species. The above facts may give important information to elucidate the origin of the so‐called “manganism,” a dreaded illness marked by Parkinson's‐like tremors, and also give possible reasons as to why the soil in certain regions of Iceland, Slovakia, and Colorado where scrapie, Creutzfeldt‐Jacob disease, and chronic wasting disease clusters are found, is low in copper and high in manganese. |
