Popis: Schiff base derived chromogenic compounds have wide applications in signal transductions in chemical and biological sciences. The signal transductions caused by fluoride ions on chromogenic Schiff bases have been widely studied and reviewed in several major reviews. Over the course of time, exhaustive searches to improve performance of different C N bonded compounds for signal transductions by fluoride ions have been carried out. Among these, the one showing visual color changes while performing detections at biological conditions have general and practical interests. A long list of closely related chromogenic probes for such purposes has been compiled up in literature as data extensions. Hence, a classified approach is required to decipher the importance of different scaffolds Schiff bases to understand them in a systematic manner. This review is on a classified approach on the trends in the different chromogenic Schiff base derived small molecules to detect fluoride ions with high selectivity.
