Popis:	Summary When 3 d old aerobic seedlings were subjected to anaerobic conditions the amount of reducing sugars and sucrose in the roots immediately decreased. With the continuation of anaerobiosis, the concentration of reducing sugars further decreased, while the level of sucrose showed a steady increase. The starch present in this organ was not significantly modified by the anaerobic treatment. These findings together with the progressive reduction of (both acid and basic) invertase activity in the absence of oxygen is discussed.
