Popis: | The grafting kinetics of bis-( N -isopropyl- N -phenyl- p -phenylenediamine) disulfide to polyisoprene and styrene-butadiene rubber was investigated using the 35 S labeled disulfide. The labeled compound was synthesized by reacting 35 S 2 Cl 2 with the diamine. The grafting was induced by thermal treatment. The ungrafted antioxidant was removed by acetone extraction and its concentration determined by measuring the radioactivity of the extracts. The concentration of the grafted antioxidant was determined by measuring the radioactivity of the extracted rubber films. The grafting is a first-order reaction, the rate determining step being the cleavage of the disulfide bond. The rate constants and activation energies depend on the degree of unsaturation of the rubber. |
