Previously, an analysis [Roger H. Hackman and Douglas G. Todoroff, J. Acoust. Soc. Am. Suppl. 1 76, S8 (1984)] of scattering from a solid aluminum cylinder with an aspect ratio of 10:1 was presented based on a spheroidal coordinate T‐matrix formalism. We now consider the acoustic scattering from a copper, spheroidal shell with an aspect ratio of 5:1 and a constant shell thickness of 5% of the broadside dimension, immersed in water. Experimental measurements are compared with calculations based on the spheroidal formalism and a physical explanation is provided for the more prominent features. Particular emphasis is placed on associating prominent effects with the elastic waves propagating in the shell. |
