Popis: Optimum shape design solves a class of problems involving continuous mechanical components where the optimum shape (the shape of the boundary and the surfaces of the components) is determined. In this work, a computer code has been developed for analysis and design/optimization of 2D fin subjected to both convective and radiative heat dissipation. The procedure proposed involves numerical solution of field equations, using finite element approximation, and optimization of parameters defining fin geometry using mathematical optimization techniques. The finite element mesh or grid is reinterpolated automatically due to the change in the fin shape during the problem solution.
