Abtract Conception from successful female ovulation and male insemination results in nine months’ pregnancy and birth. The outcome of shorter gestation is premature birth of a low birthweight infant. Fertility regulation, or contraception, limits conception by male methods such as the condom or surgical vasectomy, and by females by use of the oral contraceptive pill, the female condom, or long-term breastfeeding of the previous infant. Prenatal care refers to learning how to maintain health and prepare for the birth of a healthy infant. |
