Popis: | In the course of fly collecting on mountain summits in 1952, some of the commonest species taken were of the Sarcophaga “sima-idonea group.” Fourteen species of this group were recognized in the summit material, of which nine were considered to be undescribed. This revision is based on that material, plus rather limited material from other sources, primarily the U. S. National Museum, the University of Michigan Museum, the Carnegie Museum, the Emory University Museum, the Chicago Natural History Museum, the American Museum of Natural History, the Snow Entomological Museum of the University of Kansas, the Museum of Comparative Zoology, and the Canadian National Collection. Valuable material was made available for study through the courtesy of Prof. Henry Dietrich and Dr. C. O. Berg, Cornell University, Mr. Wm. L. Downes, Ames, Iowa, Dr. F. M. Snyder, Baltimore, Md., and Mr. G. C. Steyskal, Grosse He, Mich. The late Professor P. W. Fattig, of Emory University, was also very helpful, and three more species were added to the Georgia list through his collecting. The writer is also indebted to the following persons for assistance in summit collecting: Mr. J. M. Seago, Mr. W. D. Sudia, Dr. H. D. Pratt, Dr. N. E. Good, and Mr. Charles Dunaphant. |
