The efficiency and effectiveness of the fin in an unsteady-state can be solved by numerical computation methods. One method that can be used is the explicit finite difference method. Apart from presenting how to calculate the temperature in the fin, heat transfer rate, efficiency and effectiveness of the straight fin, this article also analyzes the results of the calculations that have been obtained. The observed straight fin is elliptical in shape. The cross-sectional area of the fins is the same size and shape as long as of the fins. Fins are composed of two different metal materials. Material properties are assumed to be homogeneous and fixed or unchanged with changes in temperature. The entire surface of the fins is in contact with the fluid around the fins. The initial fin temperature is uniform, with temperature of the base of fin being kept constant over time. Research can be developed with different initial conditions and boundary conditions, different shapes and sizes of the fin section or with the properties of the fin material changing with changes in temperature. |
