Health-related goals are among the most common types of goals. However, achieving these goals is challenging. Previous research focused on person-level traits and goal-level characteristics that predicted goal achievement but has overlooked the content of these goals. Even though health is generally desired, individuals have different priorities and motives that manifest in the content and the wording of their health-related goals. The first aim of the current project is to describe the common themes of people’s health-related goals using linguistic analysis. This project will also compare the themes of accomplished goals and unaccomplished goals. Words used to describe goals may reflect how individuals think about and pursue their goals. Therefore, the second aim of the current project is to explore how the wordings of goals relate to goal progress in a three-month period. The findings will provide new insights into the associations between the linguistic components of goals and goal pursuit. |
