Popis: | The purpose of the present study was to examine cardiac orienting response (OR) and affective bias as indicators of weight-related attentional bias in women with binge/purge symptoms versus asymptomatic women. We examined mean heart rate (HR) deceleration (a cardiac indicator of cognitive orienting response), negative affect, positive affect, sadness, and guilt to control, underweight, normal weight, and overweight visual stimuli in women (Mage = 22.49) with binge/purge symptoms (n = 21) versus asymptomatic women (n = 16). A 2 (ED status) × 4 (condition) mixed factorial multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) showed a statistically significant interaction. Cardiac OR and affective indicators suggest women with binge/purge symptoms show a more pervasive attentional bias toward a variety of weight-related stimuli. Results provide further support for the information processing model of disordered eating. |
