Ferranti effect means receiving end voltage of transmission line will be more than sending end voltage of transmission line, this effect is seen in medium and long transmission lines during no load and light load conditions. This effect can be minimized by placing a Thyristor Controlled Reactor (TCR) which is a FACTS device at receiving end of the transmission line. This method replaces the disadvantages of fixed inductor. For verification of the proposed method, simulation is performed in MATLAB Software at no load and light load conditions at various lengths of transmission lines and it is observed that results are efficient compared to fixed inductor model. |
