Implicit in the development of social work practice theory have been common themes around the social worker's focus on the person‐environment transaction and on persons as subjects and/or objects (recipients) of the helping process. Both an analytic review of practice theory development and research on the operating assumptions of practitioners confirm these as lasting themes and also as polarities underlying theory development. Around these polarities different working philosophies of practice are clustered. They are reconcilable in the theoretically elaborated concept of “work.” |
