Popis: Since 1984, the beginning of the series of workshops on Use of Parallel Processors in Meteorology (see Hoffmann, Snelling (1988)), the emphasis has always been on a small number of processors, as for example expressed in the statement “it became apparent during the discussions that the smaller the number of processors the better” (see Prior (1988)). However, during the 3rd workshop held in 1988, the proceedings of which are contained in this book, there was a remarkable shift to the investigation of massively parallel processors. The reasons for this change can be attributed to a number of developments outlined below.
