Popis: | This chapter focuses on latent heat storage (LHS) technology that involves storing thermal energy in the form of latent heat of fusion of phase change material (PCM). The chapter begins with a brief introduction to some of the fundamental properties, advantages and limitations of LHS system. The general challenges for LHS such as PCM selection, corrosion and containment compatibility, system integration and performance requirements are discussed for the different configurations of LHS that are applicable to Concentrating Solar Thermal (CST) systems. The approaches to overcoming the challenges are presented. The chapter concludes with an example system-level study that analyzes the techno-economic feasibility of different configurations of LHS integrated with a CST power tower plant. |
