The freestanding blue luminescent Si1− x Ge x nanoparticles (NPs) are synthesized by the reduction of SiCl4 and GeCl4 within inverse micelles. Transmission electron microscopy imaging shows that the mean size of the Si1− x Ge x NPs was 6.85 ± 4.05 nm. The Si and Ge composition of the NPs is characterized by energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, resulting in the stoichiometry of the NPs from Si0. 49Ge0 .51 to Si0. 66Ge0 .34 that the NPs are mainly composed of Si and Ge. In the Raman study, the SiGe bond in the NPs is observed at 395 cm−1. In the optical study, the NPs show an emission spectrum (λem = 359 nm). |
