Popis: The data on the composition of photosynthetic pigments according to the systematic affiliation of algae are pre-sented using the example of the Azov Sea, with the relationships analyzed between the phytopigment absorption spec-tra and the concentration of nutrients in water. The study was performed in summer (July-August) in 2010-2017 by the standard grid of stations covering the entire area of the sea proper and the Taganrog Bay. The oxygen maximum con-centration both in the sea and the Taganrog Bay was shown to coincide with the maximum light absorption of chlo-rophyll in the blue region of the spectrum in the evening and twilight hours. In the sea proper and the Taganrog Bay, the formation of the oxygen maximum concentration corresponded to an increase in the chlorophyll "a" concentra-tion in seston. In the sea proper the diatoms contained more chlorophyll "a" compared to the dinophyceae, the in-crease in the chlorophyll " b" concentration is typical of the latter. The content of chlorophyll "c" did not signifi-cantly differ between the diatoms and the dinophlagellates. Great amounts of the chlorophyll "a" in the Taganrog Bay can be explained by the blue-green algae domination. In the summer, a slight pheophytinization of the chloro-phyll in the sea and the Taganrog Bay was an indicator of high production capacity of phytoplankton. With high con-tent of nutrients in the water, a favorable physiological state of phytoplankton (Margalef index was 3), moreover, the pri-mary organic matter accumulated in water.
