Selective eigenvalue analysis of linearised power system models is a well-known analysis technique in power system studies. Wide area measurement systems have made available online estimates of the critically damped modes in power systems. While wide area actuators in the form of power electronics actuators (HVDC, FACTS, renewable actuators) have provided additional flexibility in control of these oscillations. These actuators have lead to the need for further adaptations to selective eigen analysis tools. This paper presents a review of selective eigen analysis tools used in power system studies and brings out newer requirements in the context of wide area measurements and control. |
