Cesium vapor supply system (CVSS) is one of the most important units for thermionic space nuclear power system (SNPS). The scheme of cesium vapor supply system for ‘‘Topaz’’ SNPS with one usage of cesium is given. Design of cesium vapor generator (CVG) as main component of supply system is described. Experimental elaboration of CVSS was one of the most complicated tasks for common program of ‘‘Topaz’’ SNPS elaboration. It included: autonomous tests of CVSS components, complex tests of supply system in structure of various SNPS and incore thermionic reactor (ITR) thermal mockups, complex tests of supply system together with automatic control system in structure of three ground ‘‘Topaz’’ SNPS prototypes. Final confirmation of CVSS workability had been obtained under flight tests of two ‘‘Topaz’’ SNPSs which had demonstrated practical identity of all processes in CVSS under ground and flight conditions. Obtained results confirm the principal rightness of design decisions and ground elaboration methodology for ‘‘Topaz’’ CVSS. |
