Popis: Earthquake-triggered landslides have caused substantial devastation during the event and afterwards and therefore, one such earthquake of 7.6 Mw that occurred on October 8, 2005, in Kashmir Himalaya was analyzed to model seismically induced landslides. Ground deformation and landslides due to the earthquake were studied based on subpixel spatial correlation of 15 m resolution ASTER data, very high-resolution Indian satellite data products from Cartosat-1 (PAN: 2.5m resolution) and Resourcesat-1 (LISS IV: 5.8m multispectral) satellites. The extent of the causative fault has been mapped based on subpixel registration, image interpretation, damage assessment, and field investigation. The ground deformation and damage survey revealed that the hanging wall side was severely affected and caused numerous earthquake-triggered landslides. The statistical analysis of landslide inventory based on probability density function enabled estimation of earthquake magnitude as 7.7 Mw which is very close to geophysically determined magnitude of 7.6 Mw. The total landslide area was estimated between 49 and 67 km2 which corresponds well with the actual landslides mapped using moderate to high-resolution satellite data.
