Short postharvest vase life is one of the most important problems on the cut flowers . In this study we investigated the effect of some natural components as sucrose, salicylic acid (SA), proline, peppermint extract (PE) and ascorbic acid (ASA) on sugars and starch content in (Rosa hybrida L.cv. "Avalanche" & "Bella vita") flowers. The treatments were control, sucrose (25, 50 and 75 g/L), salicylic acid (1, 2 and 3 mM), proline (5,10 and 15 mM), peppermint extract (25, 50 and 75 g/L) and ascorbic acid (50, 100 and 150 mg/L).Results showed that the two higher concentrations 75 and 50 g/L of sucrose and peppermint extract,10 and 15 mM of proline,150 and 100 mg/L of ascorbic acid and the lowest concentration 1mM of salicylic acid significantly increased the starch content in two seasons for both cultivars compared to control, while the same previous concentrations caused a significant decrease in percent of sugars content (total sugars, reducing sugars)in two seasons for both cultivars compared to control, all treatments which used did not affect on non-reducing sugar content ) compared to control in two season for both cultivars . |
