Popis: The present paper is based on research on biography of A. Chmara, the last voivode of Mińsk living in 1720-1805. He represented beliefs characteristic to his times. Chmara assumed that the state should serve citizens, their career and development rather than them defense it, despite the changes in people’s mentality occurred during the reign of the last ruler. The mentioned views had a great impact on Chmara and his attitudes towards the political events he witnessed both as a participant and as an observer. The Voivode of Mińsk, recalled as an example of a new senator created by Stanisław August, seems to be a model for the whole generation of politicians who in spite of the true love for their homeland, were not ready for the sacrifices required by the situation.
