Popis: The possibility of application of fiber optic on place of current transformers is the subject of far going investigation carried in different research centers. Measurements of high currents in bus burs with the application of fiber optic sensors was several published but it was not evident what type of fiber optic sensors was used. Using the available sensors, measurement of high current were made with satisfying accuracy. The magnetic fields existing in the surroundings of the model of air line conducting the current and bus bars conducting current were analyzed. For this purpose coil-shaped fiber optic sensors was designed to co-operation with the wavelength equal to 1550 nm. The current was generated as the result of the discharge the power engineering capacitors bank. The available current was up to 16 kA (maximum value) and answer signals from fiber optic sensors was measured using multichannel recorder. The aspects of eventual application of fiber optic sensors to the measurement of the current in the AC metal-enclosed switchgear, for rated voltages up to 52 kV were analyzed on the basis of the results of experiments.
