Popis: A fecal toxin has previously been identified and implicated in the pathogenesis of clindamycin-induced cecitis in humans and hamsters. This report documents neutralization of the hamster toxin by Clostridium sordellii antitoxin and suggests its similarity to fecal toxins found in patients with antibiotic-associated colitis. Filtrates of broth cultures of C. sordellii and Clostridium difficile were also toxic for hamsters and cell cultures. The toxicity of filtrates from both organisms was neutralized by C. sordellii antitoxin.
