Popis: The prenatal detection of genetic disorders has become an area of increasing importance during the past few years. The development of reliable screening procedures for the early detection of familial disorders leading to mental retardation has stimulated the demand for an early assessment of fetal integrity in “high risk” pregnancies. The acceptance of transabdominal amniocentesis as a safe procedure and advances in tissue culture techniques as well as micromethods for biochemical assays and chromosomal analysis have all contributed to the rapid advances in this field.
